The Custom Updates Publishing Tool console contains four panes and a search filter, each described in the following sections.

- Custom Updates Publishing Tool Start Page
- Provides links to help topics and automatically or manually checks for newer versions of software updates catalogs. The start page appears in the center area of the publishing tool console when the Custom Updates Publishing Tool node in the Tree View pane is selected.
- Tree View Pane in the Custom Update Publishing Tool Console
- Displays the various nodes used for global and specific actions and appears on the left side of the Custom Updates Publishing Tool console.
- List View Pane in the Custom Updates Publishing Tool Console
- Displays information associated with the item selected in the Tree view pane and appears in the upper center area of the Custom Updates Publishing Tool console.
- Properties Pane in the Custom Updates Publishing Tool Console
- Displays read-only information about the custom update selected in the List view pane and appears in the lower center area of the Custom Updates Publishing Tool console.
- Action Pane in the Custom Updates Publishing Tool Console
- Displays all of the available actions and appears on the right side of the Custom Updates Publishing Tool console.
- Search Filter in the Custom Updates Publishing Tool Console
- Provides the ability to limit the number of custom update attributes displayed in the List View pane. The Search Filter appears above the List View pane in the upper center area of the Custom Updates Publishing Tool console.
