Use the Update Information page in the Create Update Wizard or Modify Update Wizard to configure general information about the custom update. Mandatory fields that must be completed display with the required field indicator.
This page contains the following elements:
- Update Title
- Specifies the name of the custom update. This is a required field.
- Description
- Specifies the description for the custom update. This is a required field.
- Classification
- Specifies the classification type for the custom update. This
is a required field. The following values are available from the
drop-down menu:
- Critical Updates: A broadly released update for a specific
problem that addresses a critical, non-security-related bug.
- Feature Packs: New product features that are distributed
outside of a product release and typically included in the next
full product release.
- Updates: An update to an application or file currently
installed.
- Security Updates: A broadly released update for a
product-specific, security-related issue.
- Service Packs: A cumulative set of hotfixes that are applied to
an application. These hotfixes can include security updates,
critical updates, software updates, and so on.
- Hotfixes: A cumulative package of one or more files used to
address a problem in an existing product.
- Tools: A utility or feature that helps to complete one or more
tasks.
- Update Rollups: A cumulative set of hotfixes that are packaged
together for easy deployment. These hotfixes can include security
updates, critical updates, updates, and so on. An update rollup
generally targets a specific area, such as security or a component
of a product.
- Critical Updates: A broadly released update for a specific
problem that addresses a critical, non-security-related bug.
- Bulletin ID
- Specifies the bulletin ID for the custom update. A bulletin ID provides additional information about the update and is usually associated with Microsoft security software updates. Other vendors will occasionally provide the bulletin ID. This is an optional field.
- Vendor
- Specifies the name of the vendor creating the custom update. Existing vendors can be selected from the drop-down menu or a new one can be entered in the text box. If the Create Update Wizard is started from the Vendor or Product node of the console, this field is automatically populated. This is a mandatory field.
- Product
- Specifies the name of the product for which the custom update applies. Existing products can be selected from the drop-down menu or a new one can be entered in the text box. If the Create Update Wizard is started from the Product node of the console, this field is automatically populated. This is a mandatory field.
- Previous
- Return to the previous page of the wizard.
- Next
- Moves to the next page of the wizard.
- Cancel
- Discards the settings and exits the wizard.
