The Setup wizard can run only on an SMS site server. However, your SMS environment may contain more than one SMS site server in the SMS hierarchy. Because the SMS objects that you create (collections, packages, and programs) automatically flow down the site hierarchy, it is recommended that you run the inventory scan tool wizard on a primary SMS site server that is highest in the hierarchy, such as a central site server. If the scan tool is installed on a primary site lower in the hierarchy, the sites higher in the hierarchy are not able to report on the software updates.
