Mobile Device Manager (MDM) Software Distribution Console is a Microsoft Management Console 3.0 (MMC 3.0) snap-in through which you deploy software packages to managed Windows Mobile devices.

Prerequisites for MDM Software Distribution Console

The following shows the software you must have installed to run MDM Software Distribution Console:

  • Microsoft Management Console 3.0 (MMC 3.0)

  • MMC 3.0 snap-in for Windows Software Update Service (WSUS) SP1

  • Microsoft Report Viewer Control

Console Components

The following shows the three main panes in MDM Software Distribution Console:

  • Software Distribution: The leftmost pane shows a hierarchical view of your Software Distribution deployment.

  • Details: The center pane provides the status information for the item that you selected in the Software Distributionpane.

  • Actions: The rightmost pane contains actions that are common to the item that you selected in the Software Distributionpane, such as Searchor Help.

Services Available in the Console

The following shows what you can do with the available services in MDM Software Distribution Console:

  • Create and manage software packages to distribute to managed devices

  • Approve packages for installation or removal, or decline packages

  • Designate client-side or server-side targeting for package distribution

  • Create and manage device groups

  • Add or remove devices from device groups, or remove devices from the server

  • Run reports on software distribution results
