The following procedure shows how you can use the Group Policy Object Editor to configure Group Policy settings for managed Windows Mobile devices.
Settings related to security, encryption, and device management will appear in the console tree in Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Mobile Settings. User-related settings are located in User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Mobile Settings.
To configure a Group Policy setting, locate the setting you want, and then select the options and enter the values in the dialog box. For example, to set a policy that requires a minimum password length for all managed devices, edit the Minimum password lengthpolicy setting. This is located in Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Mobile Settings\Password Policies. Enable the setting, if it is not already, and then specify the password length.
|If the Windows Mobile Settingsnode does not appear in the Administrative Templatesnode, you must add the managed device settings template to the GPO. For more information, see Creating a New Group Policy Object for Devices.|
A policy can be in one of three states, Enabled, Disabled, or Not Configured. Initially, the not configured state indicates that the policy setting does not exist on the device. After the policy setting has been configured then changing the state to Not Configuredwill have no effect on the device. That is, the device policy setting will remain in its current state (enabled or disabled).
