The following procedures show how you can use the System Center Mobile Device Manager Group Policy (GP) extensions to configure a wireless local area network (WLAN) connection to the Internet or to your company network.

Configuring a WLAN Internet Connection
To configure a WLAN Internet connection

In the Group Policy Management Console, expand Group Policy Objects. Right-click the target GPO and then select Edit.

In the Group Policy Object Editor, expand Computer Configuration/Windows Mobile Settings, right-click Network Connections, and then select New Network Connection.

In the Welcome to the Network Connection Wizarddialog box, choose Next.

In the Connection Typedialog box, choose WLAN (802.11), and then choose Next.

In the 802.11 Wireless Network Connection Settingsdialog box, follow these steps:
- In the
Network Name (SSID)box, type the appropriate network name.
- In the
Connects tolist, select
Internet.
- If you want to prevent the user from changing these settings,
select
Do not allow the user to change the connection settings.
- Choose
Next.
- In the
Network Name (SSID)box, type the appropriate network name.

In the 802.11 Wireless Network Security Settingsdialog box, in the Authentication Typelist, select the authentication type.

Based upon the authentication type you selected in the previous step, do the following:
If you selected Openauthentication or Sharedauthentication, follow these steps:
- In the
Encryption Typelist, select the encryption type.
- If you selected
This Key is provided automatically, from the
Key Indexlist, select the key index value.
- If you selected
Enable network access using 802.1x, in the
EAP Typelist, select the EAP type.
- Choose
Nextand then go to step 8.
If you selected WPAauthentication, follow these steps:
- In the
Encryption Typelist, select the encryption type.
- In the
Key Indexlist, select the key index.
- In the
EAP Typelist, select the EAP type.
- Choose
Nextand then go to step 8.
If you selected WPA-PSKauthentication, follow these steps:
- In the
Encryption Typelist, select the encryption type.
- In the
Network Keybox, type the network key.
Or, if the network key is provided automatically, select The key is provided automatically. Then, in the Key Indexlist, select the key index value. - Choose
Next.
- In the
Encryption Typelist, select the encryption type.

In the Completing the Network Connection Wizarddialog box, verify that the summary information is correct and then choose Finish.
You can go back if you want to change the information.
Configuring a WLAN Work Connection
The following procedure assumes that you connect to the network through a proxy server and that you are required to provide a user name and password.
If you are not required to connect through a proxy server, make sure that you clear the Configure how this work connection allows access to the Internetcheckbox.
To configure a WLAN work connection

In the Group Policy Management Console, expand Group Policy Objects. Right-click the target GPO, and then choose Edit.

In the Group Policy Object Editor, expand Computer Configuration/Windows Mobile Settings, right-click Network Connections, and then select New Network Connection.

In the Welcome to the Network Connection Wizarddialog box, choose Next.

In the Connection Typedialog box, choose WLAN(802.11), and then choose Next.

In the Connects tolist, select Work.

Select Configure how this work connection allows access to the Internet.

If you want to prevent the user from changing these settings, select Do not allow the user to change the connection settings.

Choose Next.

In the 802.11 Wireless Network security Settingsdialog box, in the Authentication Typelist, select the authentication type.

Based upon the authentication type you selected in the previous step, do the following:

Encryption Typelist, select the encryption type.
- In the
Network Keybox, type the network key.
Or, if the network key is provided automatically, select The key is provided automatically. Then, in the Key Indexlist, select the key index value. - Choose
Next.
- In the
Encryption Typelist, select the encryption type.

In the Proxy Configurationdialog box, select a proxy server from the Existing proxieslist. If your proxy server is not listed, follow these steps:
- Choose
Add.
- In the
Configure New Proxydialog box, type the description of the
proxy connection in the
Descriptionbox, and then in the
Proxy (Host:Port)box, type the proxy server address and port
number.
- In the
Proxy Typelist, select the type of proxy.
- Choose
Add.

In the Proxy Address Typelist, select the proxy address type.

If you want to prevent the user from changing these settings, select Do not allow the user to change the proxy settings.

Choose OK.

In the Completing the Network Connection Wizarddialog box, verify that the summary information is correct and then choose Finish.
You can go back if you want to change the information.
