The SCM user interface includes several major elements:
- The Baselines Library is located the left pane of the console. The Baselines Library provides a list of all locally available baselines organized in a tree structure that divides them as Custom Baselines, Microsoft Baselines, and Other Baselines.
- The Baseline Information in the center pane of the console varies depending on the context. For example, when you first start the program, the main Welcome to SCM content displays, but when you expand a product baseline node in the Baselines Library pane, and then click a baseline, the setting information for that baseline displays in this pane.
- The Action pane on the right side of the console displays a list of commands that are available depending on what process you are using SCM to accomplish.
The SCM interface displays a lot of information when a setting is selected. You will find it easier to browse in SCM if you view the program information in a maximized window on a high resolution display. It is possible to resize the width of each pane.
You can simplify the interface by hiding the Baseline Library pane or the Action pane. To toggle the display of these two panes, on the main menu, click View, and then click Show/Hide Baseline Library (Ctrl+L) or Show/Hide Action Pane (Ctrl+R).
