The following procedure details the steps for configuring notification subscriptions so that users can subscribe to specified alerts in System Center Essentials 2010. A subscriber can be an individual user account or a distribution list. Before completing this procedure, you must enable a notification channel and then create a notification subscriber.

To create a notification subscription

  1. In the Essentials console, click the Administration button.

  2. In the Administration pane, expand Notifications, right-click Subscriptions, and then click New Subscription to launch the Notification Subscription wizard.

  3. On the Description page, in Subscription name, type a meaningful name for the subscription, type a short description, and then click Next.

  4. On the Criteria page under Conditions, select the criteria that should be matched when alerts are generated for computers and devices to generate notifications for subscribers. In the Criteria Description box, click the underlined value for the condition you selected to specify additional criteria. Click Next when you have finished selecting criteria for sending notifications to subscribers.

  5. On the Subscribers page under Selected subscribers, click New or Add to specify subscribers for the notification. At least one subscriber must be selected in order to proceed. After you have selected subscribers, click Next.

  6. On the Channels page, click Add to add a notification channel or click New to create a new notification channel. See How to Create an E-Mail Notification Channel for instructions on creating new notification channels. Under Alert Aging, select Send notifications without delay or delay sending notifications if conditions remain unchanged for longer than the number of minutes you specify in the text box. Click Next.

  7. On the Summary page, review your settings. Click Previous to go back and make changes. Select Enable this notification subscription if you would like the subscription enabled after it has been created, and then click Finish.
