A managed services provider (MSP) uses System Center Operations Manager 2007 (SCOM), Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), and an Essentials 2007 Management Server to remotely monitor and administer a client's server environment.

When you install the Essentials 2007 Management Server in the client's environment, an additional utility is installed that the MSP can use to set up the client installation to send monitoring information to the MSP site.

To configure Essentials 2007 to support the managed services provider

  1. On the Essentials 2007 Management Server in the client server environment, click Start, point to All Programs, point to System Center Essentials 2007, and click Configure Service Provider Mode.

  2. Select Enable Service Provider Mode and provide the following information:

    • In Operations Manager management group name and Operations Manager management server name, provide the names of the appropriate Operations Manager entities at the MSP site. The Management Server name must be a fully qualified domain name.

    • In Authentication certificate, enter the name of (or browse to) the local certificate that the Essentials 2007 Management Server will use to identify itself to the MSP management programs.

    • In Certificate password, provide the password required to use this certificate.

    • In Trusted root certificate, enter the name of (or browse to) the root certificate that will be used by the MSP to identify its communications to the Essentials 2007 Management Server.

To stop remote management of the Essentials 2007 Management Server

  1. On the Essentials 2007 Management Server in the client server environment, click Start, point to All Programs, point to System Center Essentials 2007, and click Configure Service Provider Mode.
