One of the following misconfiguration messages appear when a component in the Operations Manager capacity model requires a supporting component, when a component cannot be collocated with another component on the same computer, or when you have modified a capacity model and removed a necessary component.

Typically, one of the misconfiguration messages appear when you have modified a capacity model and removed a necessary component. The following table shows constraints on Operations Manager 2007 server roles and required supporting components.

Operations Manager Server Role Constraint Requires Supporting Component

Audit collector

  • The ACS collector and Management Server component represents both the ACS collector and the Management Server roles. Additionally deploying the separate Management Server role on the same server models the effect of a single server handling both ACS traffic and normal agent traffic.  While this is a valid role configuration, it is not recommended and will generate a warning.
  • Cannot be collocated with an audit database

ACS database

The number of audit collectors much match the number of ACS databases.

Audit database

Cannot be collocated with an audit collector.

Audit Collector

The number of audit databases much match the number of ACS collectors.

Operations Manager Database

  • There can be only one Operations Manager database.
  • Can be clustered. When clustered, active and passive nodes must be connected to the same storage devices.

None

Reporting data warehouse

  • There can be only one Reporting data warehouse.
  • Can be clustered. When clustered, there can be only one passive node. Both passive and active nodes must be connected to the same storage devices

Reporting server

The Reporting data warehouse must be mapped from the reporting server role.

Reporting server

  • There can be only one reporting server.
  • Must be mapped to the Reporting data warehouse.

Reporting data warehouse

The reporting server must map to the Reporting data warehouse.

Gateway server

None

None

Management server

  • There must be at least one management server.
  • Each management server must be located in the central site.

None

Root management server

  • There must be only one root management server.
  • Can be collocated with management server role (to allow the management server role to model agents in the central site)
  • Can be clustered. When clustered, active and passive nodes must be connected to the same storage devices.

Operations Manager Database

Must be in the site as the Operations Manager database.
