The Microsoft Office SharePoint Server Model Wizard guides you though the initial phase of creating a capacity model for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. You start the MOSS Model Wizard from the Welcome page.

If you need to view detailed descriptions of options on a page, press F1 while you are viewing the page in Capacity Planner.

To use the MOSS Model Wizard

  1. On the Welcome page, ensure that Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 is shown under Capacity Models.

  2. Click Create a new Capacity Model.

  3. On the SharePoint (MOSS) Farm page:

    1. Click Add SharePoint (MOSS) Farm to add a SharePoint server farm, and specify the number and types of users.

    2. Click Customize Usage Profiles to customize usage profiles for your model.

      Note
      This command is also available later in the Wizard.
    3. Click Next.

  4. On the Branch Offices page:

    1. Click Add Branch Office Profile to add a standard configuration for branch offices, including the number and types of users. In addition, specify the number of branch offices that use the profile.

    2. Click Next.

  5. On the Networks page, specify the typical type of network that connects SharePoint farm servers to each other and the typical type of network that connects the SharePoint farm to branch offices. Then click Next.

  6. On the Hardware page, select the type of computer hardware available at all sites and type of disk configuration you desire. Then click Next.

  7. On the Application page, answer the questions about your server availability and database storage requirements, and then click Next.

  8. Review information on the Model Summary page. If necessary, you can click Back so that you can make any necessary changes.

  9. Click Finish to proceed to the Model Editor.

    Important
    Before you click Finish, make sure that you have configured your SharePoint (MOSS) farm and your branch office profiles to your satisfaction. Some of the configuration options are not available in the Model Editor.
