You can use the Model Editor to add individual client profiles to any of the sites in your SharePoint deployment. That client profile applies to users for that site only (for example, only users in a specific branch office can collaborate on documents). In general, to configure a client profile, you need to specify:

A client profile has one client type and one usage profile.

Important
Proceed carefully when you add or edit client profiles. It is possible to use the Model Editor to configure a client profile in a way that is not appropriate for SharePoint. In such a case, Capacity Planner may not notify you of the problem until you attempt to run the simulator. Use the guidelines described in the following procedures to avoid problems.

To add a client profile to the SharePoint (WSS) farm or a branch office

  1. Navigate to the Site Topology view of the site you want to associate with the profile.

  2. In the Current View Actions pane, click Add a client profile.

  3. Enter a name for the profile.

  4. In Count, specify the number of users associated with this profile.

  5. Select a usage profile for this client profile.

  6. Under Component, in the left box, select one appropriate client type.

    • If your SharePoint (WSS) farm is an Internet deployment, you may select either Internet-Anonymous or Internet-Authenticated.

    • If your SharePoint (WSS) farm is an intranet deployment, select Intranet-Authenticated.

  7. Under Connect clients to local networks, select appropriate network options.

  8. To finish the new profile, click OK.

To edit a client profile

  1. Navigate to the Site Topology view of the site associated with the client profile you want to edit.

  2. In the Site Topology view, right-click the client profile icon, and click Edit client profile.

  3. As needed, edit the name of the profile, the number of users associated with the profile, or the network options.

If your SharePoint (WSS) farm is an Internet deployment, you may change from one Internet client type to the other. For example, under Component, you can de-select Internet-Anonymous, and then select Internet-Authenticated.

Important
If your SharePoint (WSS) farm is an intranet deployment, do not change any option in the Component section of the dialog box.
