Work with the State View

The available data for a State view is displayed in the Results pane when you click Statein the Actions pane. Each row in the Results pane is a data instance generated for the view.

By default, all of the data for all of the computer groups in the scope that you are using is displayed. For example, if you are logged on with an account that is a member of the MOM Administrator group, you see all of the data for the MOM Administrator Scope. If you want to refine the selection of data in the Results pane, select a specific computer group in the MOM Administrator Scope from the Computer and Groupslist, such as Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Agents. Personalize the View

The State view displays the data by using a a predetermined selection of elements (seen as column headings) that are organized in a predetermined order. You can sort the data in ascending or descending order by clicking the column title that you want to use as a sort criterion.

If you want to change the data elements that are displayed as columns, or their sequence, right-click anywhere in the Results pane, and click Personalize Viewto open the Personalize Viewdialog box.

The dialog box lists the Available columnsand the Displayed columns.

To add an item to the columns that are displayed
Select the item that you want in the Available columnslist, and then click Addto move it to the Displayed columnslist.
To remove an item from the columns that are displayed
Select the item in the Displayed columnslist, and then click Removeto move it to the Available columnslist.
To change the order that columns are displayed
Select the item in the Displayed columnslist, and then click Move Upor Move Downto move the item.

The following tables summarize the displayed column titles, or data fields, for a State view.

Displayed column Description
State Specifies the current state for all computers. For example, Critical Error.
Maintenance Mode (wrench icon) Indicates that the computer is currently in maintenance mode. All new incoming alerts are automatically set to Resolved, and responses are not run on the management server.
Domain Specifies where the computer resides on the server.
Computer Specifies the computer on which there are unresolved alerts.
MOM Agent Indicates whether or not the computer has an installed agent.
MOM Server Indicates whether or not the computer is a MOM Server.
All Open Alerts Indicates that the computer has open alerts.

See or Change View Properties

To see or change the State view properties, right-click anywhere in the Results pane, and then click State View Properties to open the State View Propertiesdialog box. This dialog box has three tabs that you work with: Criteria, General, and Roles.

Criteria
This tab has two input areas: one for selecting computers and one for specifying the corresponding descriptive parameters that are used to qualify the computer selection. In the Which computers do you want to view?list, to select a computer by clicking the check box beside the computer description. When you select a computer, a corresponding hyperlink is displayed in the View description (click the underlined value to edit)input area. Click the hyperlink to open a dialog box, and then provide the required information. The following table lists the available computer items and describes the associated information that you are prompted to provide.
Computer Required view description information
in a specified computer group Click the link to open the Computer Groupdialog box. Type a complete text string or use wildcards to identify the computer group.
with specified name Click the link to open the Namedialog box. Type a complete text string or use wildcards to provide the Domainand Computerinformation.
with specified text in the description Click the link to open the Descriptiondialog box. Type a complete text string or use wildcards to find text in the computer description.
with unresolved alerts of specified severity Click the link to open the Ownerdialog box. Select the appropriate check box to identify the level of severity that you want to use. For example, Information, Error, or Warning.
with open alerts By default, displays all states with open alerts. Use the other items to qualify this selection.
with no heartbeats in specified time range Click the link to open the Heartbeatdialog box. Specify a time range. This time range uses a numeric value and time interval, such as minutes, or days.
running Microsoft Operations Manager Agent By default, displays all states running the agent. Use the other items to qualify this selection.
with specified string in CustomData n Click the link to open the Custom ndialog box. Type a complete text string or use wildcards to locate text in a user-defined custom data field.
General
This tab has two input areas: View nameand Description. The description is optional. You can change the name or description by clicking the appropriate text bos to delete or add text.
Roles
This tab has two input areas: Available Rolesand Selected Roles. The following options are provided.
Display all roles (including those added in the future)
All the available roles (Computer, MOM, MOM Agent Node, MOM Agentless, MOM Database, MOM Reporting Database, MOM Reporting Server, and MOM Server) are included in the view. Clear the check box if you want to display specific roles for the view.
Select from existing available roles
Select this item, and then click Removeto remove roles from the Selected Roleslist, or click Addto add roles from the Available Roleslist.

Work with View Details

The Detail pane for the State view displays view information for all the rows in the Results pane. You can view detail information for each data element in the Results pane by clicking the specific data. For example, to view the details for a specific computer, click the computer name in the Computercolumn. The Detail pane displays the following information:
