Create a New State View

Create a new State view by using the Navigation pane in the MOM Operator console.

Members of MOM Administrators and MOM Authors can create new views anywhere in an active view, Public Views, or My Views. Members of MOM Users can create a new view only in My Views.

You can create a new view in any existing folder, or create a new folder. To create a new folder, right-click an existing folder, point to New, and then click Folder.

To create a new State view

  1. In the Navigation pane, click State, right-click the folder for the rule group where you want to create the view, point to New, and click State Viewto open the Create New - State Viewdialog box.
  2. In the Which type of State View do you want to create?list, select the state that you want to create.
  3. The View descriptionlist is dynamically populated with criteria that correspond to your selection. Click Nextto continue.
  4. Depending on the state that you selected, an additional dialog box is displayed. In the Which computers do you want to view?list, select the check box beside the description that qualifies which computers you want to view. Each enabled computer automatically creates a hyperlink in the View description (click the underlined value to edit)viewing area.
  5. Click each link to open a dialog box to provide more information that is used to select the computer. When finished entering this required information, click OK.
  6. Click Nextto continue.
  7. Specify the roles that you want associated with the State view by either accepting all roles or selecting from existing available roles. Click Addand Removeto move roles between the Available Rolesand Selected Roleslists. When finished selecting roles, click Nextto continue.

    You can change the order of the computers in the Selected Roleslist by clicking Move Upand Move Downto change the sequence in the list.

  8. In the View namebox, type a name. You can optionally type a description in the Descriptionbox.
  9. Click Finishto complete the creation of the view.
  10. Example

    The procedure in the following example creates a new state view based on computer heartbeat.

    1. In the Navigation pane, click State, right-click the folder for the rule group where you want to create the view, point to New, and click State Viewto open the Create New - State Viewdialog box.
    2. Select For computers with no heartbeat in the last 15 minutes, and click Next.
    3. The with no heartbeat in specified time rangecheck box is already selected.
    4. In the View descriptionviewing area, click in the last 15 minutesto open a dialog box.
    5. You are prompted to select the values to show based on time range, which combines a numeric value with a time period. In the text box, type 5as the numeric value. Click the arrow to select Minutesfrom the drop-down list. Click OK.
    6. Click Nextto continue.
    7. Because the MOM configuration in this example does not use a Reporting Database or a Reporting Server, these roles need to be removed. In the Selected Rowslist, click MOM Reporting Database, and click Remove. Do the same for the MOM Reporting Server.
    8. Click Nextto continue.
    9. In the View Namebox, type MyNewState. In the Descriptionbox, type A sample State view.
    10. Click Finish.
