Use Maintenance Mode with Managed Computers

Use the MOM Operator console to put a computer in maintenance mode, or remove it from maintenance mode. When a managed computer is in maintenance mode, alerts are still forwarded to the MOM Management Server and are "auto resolved."

To put a computer in maintenance mode

  1. In the Results pane, right-click the alert for the computer that you want to work with.
  2. Click Put Computer in Maintenance Modeto open the Maintenance Mode dialog box.
  3. Accept the defaults or change the following settings:
    • Reason- Describe the reason that you are putting the computer into maintenance mode. The maximum number of characters is 256.
    • Number of minutes- Click the arrows to increase or decrease the number of minutes to put a computer in maintenance mode. The default is 30 minutes.
    • Specific end time- Set a specific end date and time for maintenance mode, as an alternative to the default elapsed time. Click Specific end time, select the month and day from the drop-down list, and then type the end time that you want.

When a computer is in maintenance mode, you can adjust the duration of maintenance mode or remove it from maintenance mode.

To change the duration of maintenance mode

  1. In the Results pane, right-click the alert for the computer that you want to work with.
  2. Click Update Maintenance Mode Durationto open the Maintenance Mode dialog box.
  3. Edit one of the following settings to change the duration:
    • Number of minutes
    • Specific end time

To remove a computer from maintenance mode

  1. In the Results pane, right-click the alert for the computer with which you want to work.
  2. Click Remove Computer from Maintenance Mode.

A computer in maintenance mode for a specified time of less than five minutes is not be removed until the next interval that the management server checks for what computers to add to or remove from maintenance mode. This can cause a management server to remain in maintenance mode for up to five minutes. This interval cannot be modified.
