In the Help Viewer, use the Searchtab to search for words or phrases in the Help system. You can create basic searches by typing simple words or phrases, or you can create more complex searches by using wildcards and nested search expressions.
Type in the words to search for
Enter the text on which to search. You can search for any combination of letters (a-z) and numbers (0-9), except for single letters. Search text is not case sensitive. Punctuation marks, such as the period, colon, semicolon, comma, and hyphen are ignored. Use quotation marks or parentheses to set apart each element of a search.
- AND, OR, NEAR, and NOTare search operators that you can use to filter a search query by providing a connection between the expressions in the query.
- List Topicsdisplays the topics that contain the text in the selected topic list.
- Displaydisplays the topic in the topic pane.
Select topic
Displays the list of topics that contain the word or phrase that you entered, or that met the search query criteria.
- Titledisplays the topic title.
- Locationdisplays the name of the Help system in which the topics were found.
- Rankdisplays a number assigned, in ascending order, to each topic in the search.
Search previous results
Limits the search by scanning only the topics that were found in the previous search.
Match similar wordsIncludes minor grammatical variations of the word or phrase in the search. For example, a search for the word "add" finds "add," "adds," and "added."
Search titles only
Limits a search to only topic titles, rather than to the entire contents of the topics.
