Operator Console

Use the Operator console to work with managed computers. Within the bounds of the console scope that you are using, you can view information about managed computers, create new views, resolve alerts, assign alerts, and run tasks.

Console Layout Overview

The default layout and settings for the Operator console are summarized in the following table.

Menu bar The available options are:
  • File - Open, Save, Save As, Console Settings, and Exit
  • Edit - Cut, Copy, Copy Formatted Data, and Paste
  • View - Navigation Pane, Detail Pane, Tasks Pane, Properties, Personalize, Refresh, Auto-refresh, Console Refresh, Toolbars, and Status Bar
  • Go - Alerts, State, Events, Performance, Computers and Groups, Diagram, My Views, Public Views, Back, Forward, Home, Open Administrator Console, and Open Reporting Console
  • Help - Microsoft Operations Manager Help, Microsoft Operations Manager Online, and About Microsoft Operations Manager 2005
The ability to use the available commands in the menu bar, toolbars, and views is determined by:
  • The console scope that you are using
  • Whether a feature is installed, for example, the Reporting console
  • The view that you are using
Toolbars The available toobars are:
  • Standard (left to right)- Forward, Refresh, Home, Pause Autorefresh, and Tasks
  • Computer Groups - A drop down list that shows the computer groups associated with the console scope that you are using
  • View - Depending on the view type, the icons on this toolbar change. For example, for the State View type, there are icons for State View Properties and Personalize View. However, for the Events view type, the toolbar includes icons for Event View Properties, Personalize View, and Edit view time filter.
  • State Indicator (left to right)- Critical State Counts, Warning State Counts, and Successful State Counts
All toolbars are enabled by default.
Main viewing area The main viewing area is divided into four panes that are displayed below the toolbars:
  • Navigation - Changes views, navigates the view hierarchy, and works with items in the view hierarchy
  • Results pane - Displays dynamic view results.
  • Detail pane - Displays the details for each result.
  • Tasks - for launching the tasks provided for the console scope that you are using
All the panes are enabled by default.

Main Viewing Area

With all of the panes enabled (the default setting), the main viewing area is divided into four panes. From left to right, they are: the Navigation pane, the Results pane, the Detail pane, and the Tasks pane. You can resize all of the panes by clicking and dragging on a pane border to make it narrower or wider.

You can also remove a pane from the main viewing area or re-enable its display.
