Administrator Console

The Microsoft® Operations Manager (MOM) Administrator console is hosted in a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in. The console window is divided into two panes, the Navigation pane on the left side of the screen, and the Detail pane on the right side of the screen.

There is increased functionality in the MOM 2005 Administrator console. The Detail pane also uses hyperlinks to provide:

Using the Navigation and Detail Panes

Navigation pane: Microsoft Operations Manager (Default) node
When you click this node, the Detail pane is divided into four horizontal areas: Setup and Configuration Tasks, Operations, Management Packs, and Administration. The following tables describe the available links for each area and what they do.

Setup and Configuration Tasks

Install/Uninstall Agents Wizard Opens the wizard that you use to install or uninstall agents.
Manage Computers Positions the cursor at the Computersnode ( Administration) in the Navigation pane. The Detail pane for this node provides links to nodes from which you can view and manage computers. The following links are available:
  • All Computers
  • Management Servers
  • Unmanaged Computers
  • Agentless Managed Computers
  • Agent-managed Computers
  • Windows Server Cluster Computers
  • Pending Actions
  • Computer Discovery Rules
Global Settings Positions the cursor at the Global Settingsnode ( Administration) in the Navigation pane.
Import/Export Management Packs Opens the wizard that you use to import and export Management Packs, as well as import reports.
Manage Operators Positions the cursor at the Operatorsnode ( Management Packs/Notification) in the Navigation pane.
Manage Notification Groups Positions the cursor at the Notification Groupsnode ( Management Packs/Notification) in the Navigation pane.

Operations

Navigation pane: Management Packs node
When you click this node, the Detail pane provides summary information and links. The following summary information is displayed for the management group.
  • The number of rule groups
  • The number of Management Pack rules
  • The number of custom rules
  • The number of computer groups
  • The number of scripts
The following table describes the available links and what they do.

Import/Export Management Packs Opens the wizard that you use to import and export Management Packs, as well as import reports.
Computer Groups Positions the cursor at the Computer Groupsnode ( Management Packs) in the Navigation pane.
Discovered Groups Positions the cursor at the Discovered Groupsnode ( Management Packs) in the Navigation pane.
Rule Groups Positions the cursor at the Rule Groupsnode ( Management Packs) in the Navigation pane. The Detail pane for the Rule Groups node enables you to:
  • Print any information that is displayed in the Detail pane
  • Expand and drill down into rule group information for any Management Packs that are installed
  • Obtain information about the Microsoft Operations Manager Connector Feature pack (when the feature pack view is open, you can use links to navigate to nodes in the Navigation pane that relate to the Connector feature pack).
Tasks Positions the cursor at the Tasksnode ( Management Packs) in the Navigation pane.
Notification Positions the cursor at the Notification Groupsnode ( Management Packs/Notification) in the Navigation pane.
Scripts Positions the cursor at the Scriptsnode ( Management Packs) in the Navigation pane.
Computer Attributes Positions the cursor at the Computer Attributesnode ( Management Packs) in the Navigation pane.
Providers Positions the cursor at the Providersnode ( Management Packs) in the Navigation pane.
Search Results Positions the cursor at the Search Resultsnode ( Management Packs/Rule Groups) in the Navigation pane.
