Computer Groups

This folder contains computer groups that either you created, or that automatically downloaded with Microsoft® Operations Manager (MOM) 2005. Computer groups help define on which computers MOM 2005 rules are deployed. In the Administrator console, you can create and manage computer groups and subgroups.

You can also calculate group membership to make sure you see the latest group membership data. This means that included subgroups and computers, excluded computers, searches, and formulas (including formulas based on membership in discovered groups) are re-evaluated.

You must determine the inheritance and associations of rule groups to computer groups by following the hierarchy for both the associated rule groups and computer groups. In the Administrator console and the Operator console.

To verify inheritances and associations in the Administrator console

  1. In the Navigation pane, click an associated rule group.
  2. In the Detail pane, the Bound to Computer Groupsfield lists all the computer groups to which this rule group is associated, or has inherited from its parent rule group.

To verify inheritances and associations in the Operator console

  1. In the Navigation pane, click the Computer Groupsfolder to view the list of computer groups in the Detail pane. You can also view the list by expanding the Computer Groupsfolder.
  2. In the Detail pane, click a computer group or computer, and then click the Rule Groupstab in the lower portion of the pane.
