FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions and SharePoint Team Services provisioning

This section explains the support that Microsoft Provisioning System provides for provisioning FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions from Microsoft and SharePoint Team Services. FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions enables users to upload and edit their Web site files by using FrontPage 2002. SharePoint Team Services provides team messaging and collaboration functionality.

Microsoft Provisioning System provides automated provisioning of FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions and SharePoint Team Services through FrontPage Provider. FrontPage Provider exposes all of the basic management features of FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions and SharePoint Team Services. Microsoft Provisioning System, however, does not include a non-provider namespace for FrontPage. Delegated Administration Console functionality is limited to enabling and disabling FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions and SharePoint Team Services for an organization. You can access more of the FrontPage Provider's functionality by using routines in Managed IIS namespace. It is recommended that you use Managed IIS namespace rather than accessing the FrontPage Provider directly in order to take advantage of the Microsoft Provisioning System access control features, as described in FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions and SharePoint Team Services implementation architecture.

For more information about FrontPage Provider, see FrontPage Provider. For more information about creating a custom namespace, see Developing and implementing custom namespaces.

Microsoft Provisioning System also gives a designated organization user account the FrontPage and SharePoint Team Services administrator roles, as described in FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions and SharePoint Team Services implementation architecture.

To provision FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions for reseller and customer Web sites, you must have FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions installed on the IIS server that hosts the Web sites. To provision SharePoint Team Services, you must have SharePoint Team Services installed on the IIS server that hosts the Web sites. You must also have the appropriate COM objects installed and registered. SharePoint Team Services is included on the Microsoft Office 2002 CD-ROM. FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions is available for download at no charge from the Microsoft Web site. For more information about installing FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions and SharePoint Team Services software, see Performing installation tasks.
