Agents Properties, Communications Tab

Allows you to specify the settings for communication between the agent and the Consolidator. The fields are defined as follows:

Packet size ___ KB
Specifies the size of each packet sent across the network. Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 product packets consist of collected data and may span multiple TCP/IP packets. In the Agent Properties window, this field is available only when the Use Global Settings check box is clear.
Packets per session ___
Specifies the number of packets an agent can send before it must disconnect from the Consolidator and then reconnect. In the Agent Properties window, this field is available only when the Use Global Settings check box is clear.
Use unencrypted communication port
Specifies to use unencrypted communications. Unencrypted communications may slightly reduce CPU overhead, but will use more network bandwidth, if encryption is not required in your enterprise network. You can view the specified port for unencrypted communications on the Global Settings Communications tab. You can change the communications type for all agents or for individual agents, but all agents must use the same port number for that type of communications. In the Agent Properties window, this field is available only when the Use Global Settings check box is clear.
Use encrypted communication port
Specifies to use encrypted communications, and is the default setting. You can view the specified port for encrypted communications on the Global Settings Communications tab. You can change the communications type for all agents or for individual agents, but all agents must use the same port number for that type of communications. In the Agent Properties window, this field is available only when the Use Global Settings check box is clear.
Use global settings
Specifies whether this agent uses the settings for agents configured in the Global Settings window. This check box is available only when you configure individual agents in the Agent Properties window.
