Sampling Performance Counters

To collect performance counter values on a regular basis, you must create a measuring rule. A measuring rule is a type of performance rule that specifies the collection of a numeric value from a WMI performance counter. You can view graphs created from this information.

To create a measuring rule:

  1. Expand Microsoft Operations Manager (default) in the left pane.
  2. Expand Rules in the left pane.
  3. Expand Processing Rule Groups in the left pane.
  4. Expand the processing rule group to which you want to add the new measuring rule. For information about creating a processing rule group, see Creating a Processing Rule Group.
  5. Click Performance Processing Rules in the left pane.
  6. Click Action on the menu bar.
  7. Click Sample Performance Data on the Action menu.
  8. Follow the instructions until you have completed creating the measuring rule. For more information about the fields on a window, click Help.
