Defining a Threshold for a Performance Counter

To define a threshold for a performance counter, you must create a performance threshold rule. A threshold rule is a type of performance processing rule. It defines a value that can generate an alert and responses.

To create a threshold processing rule:

  1. Expand Microsoft Operations Manager (default) in the left pane.
  2. Expand Rules in the left pane.
  3. Expand Processing Rule Groups in the left pane.
  4. Expand the processing rule group to which you want to add the new threshold rule. For information about creating a processing rule group, see Creating a Processing Rule Group.
  5. Click Performance Processing Rules in the left pane.
  6. Click Action on the menu bar.
  7. Click Compare Performance Data on the Action menu.
  8. Follow the instructions until you have completed creating the threshold rule. For more information about the fields on a window, click Help.
