Monitoring the Performance of Your Network

Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 allows you to monitor the performance of your network using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). You can track performance thresholds and collect sampled data for trend analysis. You can create and view graphs of sampled data, and use the information for capacity planning.

Typically, performance thresholds generate an alert, so you can track performance thresholds in alert views. For more information about performance threshold alerts, see Viewing Alerts.

You can view sampled performance data in the Monitor. The All Performance view shows the number of counters sampled for each computer in the configuration group. In the All Performance view, you can double-click computers to see a view of performance counters evaluated on the computer. You can graph counters in this view. For more information, see Viewing Sampled Performance Data and Graphing Performance Data.
