Rule Groups and Management Pack modules

Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 (MOM) is a rules-based system. Rules group similar computers together, process the majority of information you want to monitor, and define actions MOM will take. You can create two types of rules:

Computer grouping rules
Specify groups of computers.
Processing rules
Specify how MOM collects, handles, and responds to information.

Processing rule groups allow you to categorize processing rules. For example, you could create a processing rule group named High Security for processing rules that are security-related. You can associate a processing rule group with a computer group to carry out processing rules on specific computers.

MOM includes Management Pack modules, predefined computer groups and processing rules for monitoring specific applications or environments.
