E-mail

Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 (MOM) can send an e-mail to a notification group when a processing rule match occurs. MOM supports Microsoft Exchange and SMTP for e-mail notifications. For more information about configuring e-mail notification, see the Installation Guide.

For example, you might want a database administrator to receive an e-mail if a Critical Error alert occurs on Microsoft SQL Server computer. You can create an alert processing rule that sends an e-mail response to the database administrator operator for every Critical Error alert rule in a processing rule group.

You can specify information to include in the e-mail, including, but not limited to, the following information:

If an application or computer rapidly produces a large number of identical events, called an event storm, and the event is one that calls for an e-mail response, you could potentially receive hundreds of identical e-mails. MOM can suppress duplicate alerts, so that you will see only one alert and receive only one e-mail.
