Collecting Specific Events

Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 (MOM) collects information based on processing rules. No information is collected by default.

Collection rules are the first processing rules evaluated by MOM. Collection rules allow you to identify events with specific criteria to be collected from specific sources. These events are added to the datastream processed by MOM. Events that match a collection rule are further evaluated for other processing rule matches.

Collection rules do not generate alerts or provide responses. Collection rules provide an easy way to centralize events in a common database.
