Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 (MOM) collects
information from a variety of sources called providers.
Processing rules define the provider of the information you want to
collect. MOM can collect information from the following provider
types:
Application log providers
Provide events from Microsoft Internet Information Services
(IIS) log files, SQL Server trace log files, generic ASCII log
files, and UNIX syslog files.
Timed event providers
Provide events generated by MOM at scheduled times.
WMI event providers
Provide events from Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI),
such as SNMP traps sent to the computer or service status
changes.
WMI numeric data providers
Provide sampled WMI numeric values.
Generic providers
Provide events that MOM generates internally, such as when an
agent heartbeat does not occur on time. Also provides events
created by scripts. The Generic provider is available only in
Management Pack processing rules.
