Collected Information

Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 (MOM) can collect an array of information from many different sources. Using processing rules, you can specify how MOM collects, handles, and responds to information.

Processing rules define the information MOM collects and retains in the database. For example, processing rules can specify which events trigger alerts, how the alerts are processed, and which events are filtered from the database.

Processing rules have two parts. The first part defines the information that MOM collects. This information is the focus of this section in the Help. The second part of a processing rule, which defines what MOM does with the information it collects, is covered in the Help section "Information Processing and Responses."
