System Center Configuration Manager 2007 distributes new software over a network by advertising its availability on your computer. You can download advertised programs by clicking Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.

Downloads started from Add or Remove Programs appear in the Program Download Monitor. The Program Download Monitor displays information about the size, status, and estimated time remaining for each download. It also allows you to cancel a download or change whether the program runs automatically after the download finishes.

To download advertised programs

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs. (If you are using a Windows Vista client, click Programs and Features.)

  2. Click Add New Programs.

  3. Select an item from the Category list to search within a specific group of programs. (This list is not available if you are using a Windows Vista client).

  4. In the Add programs from your network list, select the program that you want to download and install, and then click Add.

Note
You might need to install prerequisite software first. If your computer is disconnected from the network during the download, Configuration Manager 2007 can resume the download later, after the computer is reconnected. If you need to monitor and manage multiple program downloads, see Program Download Monitor Overview. You can also access advertised programs by double-clicking the Run Advertised Programs icon in Control Panel.
