User Access Logging (UAL) collects and aggregates records of client requests (both user and device) of server roles, and installed products (if registered with UAL) on the local server system. This data, in the form of IP addresses, user names, and in some cases, host names and\or virtual machine identities, is stored in the local ESE databases and is only accessible by administrators. UAL has a WMIv2 provider and associated PowerShell cmdlets for retrieving user access data intended for offline customer CAL entitlement management where actual records of unique client requests is critical.
IP addresses and user names are collected and stored in the local SQL CE databases when UAL is enabled. In some cases, host names are also collected if the DNS role is installed and virtual machine identities are also collected if Hyper‑V role is installed. No information that is collected is sent to Microsoft.
In v7.0 of the MAP toolkit, usage tracking via the UAL interface requires the following steps.
