Inventory and Assessment Wizard

The Inventory and Assessment Wizard is used to discover computers and devices in the network environment. Data collected during the inventory is used to perform the following assessments.

Windows 8 Readiness

All discovered physical computers and virtual machines running a Windows® client operating system are inventoried and analyzed for readiness to migrate to Windows 8. The computers will be assessed against minimum system requirements specified by either Microsoft® or the user. Results of the assessment can be viewed in the results pane of the MAP console or by preparing the reports and proposals for this scenario.

Users can edit the custom assessment properties used to determine the readiness of computers for Windows 8.  By selecting the Set Assessment Properties link in the actions pane of the Windows 8 Readiness Summary Results page, you can configure the values used in the Windows 8 assessment for the following properties:

·         CPU Speed (GHz)

·         Free Disk (GB)

·         Memory (MB)

Windows 7 Readiness

All discovered physical computers and virtual machines running a Windows® client operating system are inventoried and analyzed for readiness to migrate to Windows 7 Enterprise. The computers will be assessed against minimum system requirements for Windows 7 Enterprise and also recommended system requirements specified by either Microsoft® or the user. Results of the assessment can be viewed in the results pane of the MAP console or by preparing the reports and proposals for this scenario.

Users can edit the custom assessment properties used to determine the readiness of computers for Windows 7.  By selecting the Set Assessment Properties link in the actions pane of the Windows 7 Readiness Summary Results page, you can configure the values used in the Windows 7 assessment for the following properties:

·         CPU Speed (GHz)

·         Free Disk (GB)

·         Memory (MB)

·         DVD-ROM

·         Audio capabilities

·         Video capabilities

Windows Server® 2008 R2 Readiness

All discovered physical computers and virtual machines running a Windows Server® operating system are inventoried and analyzed for readiness to migrate to Windows Server® 2008 R2. The servers will be assessed against Microsoft® system requirements. Results of the assessment can be viewed in the results pane of the MAP Toolkit console or by preparing the reports and proposals for this scenario.

Users can edit the assessment properties used to determine the readiness of computers for Windows Server® 2008 R2. By selecting the Set Assessment Properties link in the actions pane of the Windows Server® 2008 R2 Readiness Summary Results page, you can configure the values used in the Windows Server® 2008 R2 assessment for the following properties:

·         CPU Speed (GHz)

·         Free Disk (GB)

·         Memory (MB)

·         DVD-ROM

Windows Server 2012 Readiness

All discovered physical computers and virtual machines running a Windows server  operating system are inventoried and analyzed for readiness to migrate to Windows Server 2012 Theservers will be assessed against minimum system requirements. Results of the assessment can be viewed in the results pane of the MAP Toolkit console or by preparing the reports and proposals for this scenario.

Users can edit the assessment properties used to determine the readiness of computers for Windows Server 2012. By selecting the Set Assessment Properties link in the actions pane of the Windows Server 2012 Readiness Summary Results page, you can configure the values used in the Windows Server2012  assessment for the following properties:

·         CPU Speed (GHz)

·         Free Disk (GB)

·         Memory (MB)

·         DVD-ROM

Virtual Machine Discovery

Identifies all discovered virtual machines running a Windows operating system in your environment. Results of the assessment can be viewed in the results pane of the MAP Toolkit console or by preparing the report for this scenario. Information about virtual machines and their physical hosts are provided in this report. 

Microsoft® SQL Server® Discovery

Identifies computers that have SQL Server® or SQL Server® components installed, provides details about database instances, databases, and users.

MySQL, Oracle, Sybase Discovery

Identifies computers that have MySQL, Oracle and Sybase databases installed and generates a report and proposal with detailed information. This information can be used to assess your environment for migrating to Microsoft® SQL Server® from other databases. 

Microsoft® Office 2010 Readiness

This assessment reports on the versions of Microsoft® Office discovered during inventory and provides a summary of the client computers that can be upgraded to Microsoft® Office 2010.

Office 365 Readiness

The Office 365 Readiness Assessment is a summary of the overall readiness of the client machines for an upgrade to Office 365, and describes the Microsoft® Office products installed on each computer and the version(s) that are installed.

Security Assessment

Identifies computers on which antispyware, antivirus, and firewall products are not found or are out of date as reported through the Windows Security Center.

Legacy Windows Server Discovery

This feature provides details about computers running the Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003 operating systems in your environment. The report provides information about the applications installed on each computer and lists their current roles. This report also displays servers running on Itanium hardware as Windows support for this platform has ended with Windows Server 2008 R2.

Web Application Discovery

The Web Application and Database Discovery inventories web applications and SQL Server® databases and instances in your environment and reports the information you need to plan the migration of workloads to Windows Azure Platform.

Internet Explorer Discovery

The Internet Explorer Migration Assessment provides details about Windows Internet Explorer and third party browsers deployed in your environment. This report also provides information about the Internet Explorer Add-ons deployed in your environment.

Windows Azure Platform Migration

Inventories web applications and SQL Server® databases in your environment in order to plan for migrations to Windows Azure and SQL Azure from your current environment.
