In this section install and configure Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services monitoring and Data Collection, which will be used for reporting purposes.

From the Solution Accelerator: SharePoint Monitoring Toolkit page, download the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 System Center Operations Manager 2007 MP.msi installer.

Run Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 System Center Operations Manager 2007 MP.msi. This will extract the management pack files into the C:\Program Files\System Center Management Packs\Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 System Center Operations Manager 2007 MP directory.

Using the System Center Operations Manager console, import the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 management pack from the C:\Program Files\System Center Management Packs\Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 System Center Operations Manager 2007 MP\Management Packs directory.
Install Monitoring Agents on COLLAB01 and COLLABBE01

Manually add the OMAction account to the local Administrators group on COLLAB01 and COLLABBE01.

On OMMGR01, run the System Center Operations Console, and then navigate to Automatic Computer Discovery.

Specify Fabrikam\Administrator as the administrator account.

Select COLLAB01 and COLLABBE01 you want to manage (and have the monitoring agent installed on).

At the Summary / Agent Action Account screen, accept the default agent installation directory. Specify the Fabrikam\OMAction account as the Agent Action account.
Enable SharePoint Usage Analysis Processing
By default, Windows SharePoint Services is not configured to enable usage analysis processing. Enable this using SharePoint Central Administration on COLLAB01.
Procedure W03-DWSH.16: To enable SharePoint usage analysis processing

On COLLAB01, in SharePoint Central Administration, click Operations, and then under Logging and Reporting, click Usage analysis processing.

Select Enable Logging. Then select Enable usage analysis processing. Leave the default times selected for Run processing between these times daily.
Grant the SharePoint_AppID User the db_owner Role for the PWDB40 Database
The SharePoint_AppID user account needs to be able to write data to the PWDB40 database for reporting purposes. Grant the SharePoint_AppID db_owner role to the PWDB40 database using the SQL Server Management Studio on OMSQL01.

On OMSQL01, open Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and expand OMSQL01.

Create a new login with the following information:
- Login name: FABRIKAM\SharePoint_AppID
- User mapping database: PWDB40
- Database role: db_owner
- Login name: FABRIKAM\SharePoint_AppID
Install the Windows SharePoint Services Data Collection Application
The Windows SharePoint Services data collection tool is an executable program (HSCollectWSSV3Data.exe) that you install on COLLAB01. You need to install the tool, and then create a scheduled task to run the tool.

The data collection tool only needs to be installed to the COLLAB01 server as long as all Windows SharePoint Services sites are load-balanced across all servers. Install this component on any server hosting unique sites. |
Procedure W03-DWSH.18: To install the Windows SharePoint Services data collection application

On COLLAB01, from the solution installation media \Monitoring and Reporting\ directory, run HSCollectWssV3Data.msi.

Accept the default installation folder and perform the installation for Everyone.
Procedure W03-DWSH.19: To create a scheduled task to run the data collection application

On COLLAB01, create a Scheduled Task with the following options:
- Schedule: Daily at 1:05 AM
- Command line:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Hosting\Reporting\WSSV3 Data Collection\HSCollectWSSV3Data.exe" -d PWDB40 -s OMSQL01
- Account to execute as: Fabrikam\SharePoint_AppID
- Schedule: Daily at 1:05 AM

Ensure that the Fabrikam\SharePoint_AppID has write permissions to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Hosting\Reporting\WSSV3 Data Collection folder.
Add OMAdminAccts group to the local Administrators group on each Windows SharePoint Services server
