DNS records must be created for the business organization, and an accepted Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) domain must be set in Microsoft Exchange 2007 SP1. These are required for functional e-mail flow.

Create a DNS Zone for the Business Organization

In the first procedure, you create the DNS zone for the business organization called alpineskihouse.com.

Procedure RUN.16: To create the alpineskihouse.com zone

  1. ON DNS 01, start the DNS MMC.

  2. Create a forward lookup zone called alpineskihouse.com. Disallow dynamic updates.

Create a Mail Exchanger (MX) Record in the Business Organization DNS Zone

Next, you create the MX DNS record in the alpineskihouse.com zone pointing to smtp.consolidatedmessenger.com.

Procedure RUN.17: To create an MX record in the business organization DNS zone

  1. On DNS01, in the DNS MMC, right-click alpineskihouse.com forward lookup zone, and then select New Mail Exchanger (MX).

  2. Leave the Host or child domain field blank. In the Fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of Mail server box, enter smtp.consolidatedmessenger.com.

Create an Autodiscover Record in the Business Organization DNS Zone

Procedure RUN.18: To create an autodiscover record in the business organization DNS zone

  1. Log on to the external DNS01 as the Local Administrator.

  2. Run the DNS MMC, right-click the alpineskihouse.com forward lookup zone, and then select New Alias (CNAME).

  3. Create the autodiscover record with the following information:

    • Alias name: autodiscover
    • Fully qualified domain name (FQDN) for target host: autodiscoverredirect.consolidatedmessenger.com
