The Client Access Server (CAS) server role accepts connections to your Microsoft Exchange 2007 SP1 server from a variety of different clients, including Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access, POP3, IMAP4, and ActiveSync.

Install Prerequisites for the Client Access Server (EXCAS01)

A number of prerequisites must be installed before the Exchange 2007 SP1 Client Access server role can be installed.

Procedure W03-DWHE.5: To install prerequisites for the Client Access server

  1. Install Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition (x64) with SP2.

  2. Install IIS.

  3. Install the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 with SP1.

  4. Install the Windows Server 2003 Support Tools.

  5. Join the Fabrikam domain.

  6. Enable the ASP.NET 2.0 Web service extensions in Internet Information Services Manager.

  7. Install the RPC over HTTP Proxy Windows networking component. To install this component, use Add or Remove Programs in Windows Control Panel.

  8. Install Microsoft PowerShell 1.0.

Install the Client Access Server Role

After you install the prerequisites, install the Exchange 2007 SP1 Client Access server role.

Procedure W03-DWHE.6: To install the Client Access server role

  1. Log on to EXCAS01 as Fabrikam\Administrator.

  2. Using the Exchange 2007 SP1 installation media, run Exchange 2007 SP1 setup from the command line specifying the Client Access Server role:
