Download and review the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Enterprise Edition Deployment Guide in order to prepare to create the Enterprise Pool.

Tasks

  1. Create Internal DNS Host Records
  2. Create Internal DNS SRV Record
  3. Create Required File Shares
  4. Create the Pool
  5. Configure the Pool

Create Internal DNS Host Records

Procedure W03-DWHO.11: To create Internal DNS Host records

  1. Open the DNS MMC on AD01.

  2. Create two host (A) records in the fabrikam.com Active Directory-integrated DNS Zone according to the following table:

    Host Record

    IP Address

    Description

    OCSPool01.fabrikam.com

    (internal IP address of OCSPOOLFE01)

    Enterprise Pool name

    Meetings.internal.fabrikam.com

    (internal IP address of OCSPOOLWEB01)

    Web Components Servers

Create Internal DNS SRV Record

Procedure W03-DWHO.12: To create Internal DNS SRV record

  1. In the DNS MMC on AD01, right-click the fabrikam.com Active Directory-integrated DNS zone, and then click Other New Records.

  2. In Select a resource record type, click Service Location (SRV), and then click Create Record.

  3. Set the following information:

    • Service: _sipinternaltls
    • Protocol: _tcp
    • Port Number: 5061
    • Host offering this service: The FQDN of the pool (for example, OCSPool01.fabrikam.com in the reference architecture)

Create Required File Shares

As explained in the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Planning Guide, before you deploy Enterprise Edition servers, determine your storage needs and create three shared folders on a file server that will be available to all servers in the pool, using either the suggested folder names or your own folder names, in order to store the following:

  • Presentations - Meeting presentations to be downloaded or streamed by conference attendees.
  • Metadata - Meeting information (metadata) that is used internally by the Web Conferencing Server component for the pool.
  • ABS - Address Book information that is used by the Address Book Server, which is included with the Web Components Server, in order to provide global address list information to Office Communicator 2007 and Office Communicator 2005 clients on a daily basis.

Procedure W03-DWHO.13: To create required file shares

  1. Log on to OCSPOOLCONF01 as Fabrikam\Administrator. Create the Presentations and Metadata directories on OCSPOOLCONF01, and share the directories.

  2. Log on to OCSPOOLWEB01 as Fabrikam\Administrator. Create the ABS directory on OCSPOOLWEB01, and share the directory.

Create the Pool

Procedure W03-DWHO.14: To create the pool

  1. Log on to the Office Communications Front End Server (OCSPOOLFE01) as a member of RTCUniversalServerAdmins or Domain Admins group and with user rights to create and modify SQL Server databases.

    Note:
To create a pool on a server other than the Back-End Database, you must install SQL database management objects (SQL DMO) on the computer. To install SQL DMO, run SQLServer2005_BC.msi from the SQL Server 2005 Setup CD.
  2. Run Setup.exe from the Office Communications Server 2007 Enterprise Edition media to start the Office Communications Server 2007 deployment wizard.

    Note:
If you are prompted to install a C++ Redistributable component, do so.
  3. Select Deploy Pools in an Expanded Topology. Next to Create Enterprise Pool, click Run.

  4. At the Pool Name, Domain and Back-End screen, specify the following values:

    • Pool Name: OCSPool01
    • Domain: fabrikam.com
    • Pool FQDN: OCSPool01.fabrikam.com
    • SQL Server instance: OCSSQLCDR01
  5. At the Web Farm FQDNs screen, specify the following values:

    • Internal web farm FQDN: OCSPOOLWEB01.fabrikam.com
    • External web farm FQDN: web.consolidatedmessenger.com
    Note:
If you do not configure the external web farm FQDN during Pool creation, the only way to define it is via WMI. See Appendix E: Manually Configuring the External Web Farm FQDN on Internal Standard Edition Servers or Pools in the document Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Edge Server Deployment Guide for detailed information.
  6. At the Reuse Existing Database screen, select Replace any existing database.

  7. At the Locations for User Database screen, enter the locations for databases and transaction logs.

    Note:
Placing your transaction logs and database files on separate physical disks is recommended.
  8. At the Meeting Content and Archive Location screen, specify the following values.

    • Meeting Content: \\OCSPOOLCONF01\Presentations
    • Meeting metadata location: \\OCSPOOLCONF01\Metadata
  9. At the Address Book Server screen, specify \\OCSPOOLWEB01\ABS as the Address Book Server file store.

  10. At the Archive and Call Detail Recording screen, select Archive call detail recording.

  11. When the wizard is complete, select View the log when you click Finish check box, and review the deployment log after installation completes to verify a successful Enterprise Pool installation.

Configure the Pool

Procedure W03-DWHO.15: To configure the pool

  1. From the Office Communications Server 2007 deployment wizard, on the Deploy Pools in an Expanded Topology page, next to Configure Pool, click Run. The Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Administrative Tools will automatically be installed.

  5. At the Client Logon Settings screen, select Clients will be manually configured for logon.

  6. At the External User Access Configuration screen, select Do not configure for external user access now.

  7. When the wizard is complete, select View the log when you click Finish check box, and review the deployment log after installation completes to verify a successful Enterprise Pool configuration.
