After you have deployed your management group infrastructure and verified its health, it is ready to use. In this section, you will perform postinstallation tasks to start using Operations Manager.

Configure Override Settings for Health Monitors

Deploy Monitoring Agents on Domain Member Servers

Procedure W03-DWM.18: To deploy monitoring agents on domain member servers

  1. On one domain controller (AD01), open Domain Controller Security Policy and navigate to User Rights Assignment. Assign the Allow log on locally user right to the OMAction account.

  2. Manually add the OMAction account to the local Administrators group on each server you want to manage.

  3. Log on to OMMGR01 as FABRIKAM\OMAdmin. Run the System Center Operations Console, and then navigate to Automatic Computer Discovery.

  4. Specify Fabrikam\Administrator as the administrator account.

  5. Select the servers you want to manage (and have the monitoring agent installed on).

  6. Accept the default agent installation directory. Specify the Fabrikam\OMAction account as the Agent Action account.

Unlock OMAdmin on Domain Controllers

  1. On each domain controller (AD01 and AD02), open a command prompt and change directory to C:\Program Files\System Center Operations Manager 2007.

  2. Run the following command:

Deploy Monitoring Agent Manually on Servers outside the Domain

For servers that are not domain members, you must manually deploy monitoring agents on them. For more information, see Deploying Gateway Server in the Multiple Server, Single Management Group Scenario

Install and Import the Hosted Messaging and Collaboration Management Packs

Procedure W03-DWM.20: To install and import the Hosted Messaging and Collaboration management packs

  1. Log on to OMMGR01 as Fabrikam\OMAdmin

  2. Run HMCManagementPack.msi, which is located on the Hosted Messaging and Collaboration distribution media in the \Monitoring and Reporting folder.

  3. Use the Operations Manager console to import the Hosted Messaging and Collaboration management pack from the C:\Program Files\System Center Management Packs\Microsoft Provisioning System Management Pack directory.
