The Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Management Pack for System Center Operations Manager monitors the Windows Application log on computers running Exchange 2010 and generates this alert when the events specified in the following Details table are logged.

Rule Name

The Exchange Transport service was unable to start listening on the Receive connector binding because the address is already in use.

Explanation

This Error event indicates that the Microsoft Exchange Transport service cannot start listening on the Receive connector binding because the address is already in use. This problem occurs when changes are made to the configuration of the receive connector binding. When the receive connector is closed and then immediately opened, an error may occur. In this scenario, Exchange has closed the socket, but the operating system has not fully released the socket.

User Action

To resolve this error, do one or more of the following:

  • Restart the Exchange Transport service.

  • Make sure that the receive connectors on the Hub Transport role are enabled.

  • Review the Application log and System log on your Exchange 2010 servers for related events. For example, events that occur immediately before and after this event may provide more information about the root cause of this error.

  • Review detailed information about the cause of this alert by using the Operations Console in Operations Manager. For more information, see the "Introduction" sectionin this topic.

  • Resolve your issue by using self-support options, assisted support options, and other resources. You can access these resources from the Exchange Server Solutions Center.
