After you have removed a member from protection and chosen to retain or delete protected data, DPM displays the protection status as "Inactive Replica Available." You can remove inactive protection by deleting the replica and, if tape protection was available, by expiring the recovery points on the associated tapes. This frees up disk space and tapes for use by other protection groups. The following procedure shows you how to remove inactive protection for group members.

Note
For co-located data sources, see Co-Locating Data.

To remove inactive protection

  1. In DPM Administrator Console, on the navigation bar, click Protection.

  2. In the display pane, select the group member for which you want to remove inactive protection.

  3. In the Actions pane, click Remove inactive protection.

  4. Select whether you want to delete the replica on disk or expire the recovery points on tape.

    Note
The tapes are not marked free until all other data on the tapes is expired.
  5. On the Tasks tab, click Close.
