Using the HP Insight Inventory Collector with System Management Server 2003

There are two options for installing and using HP Insight Inventory Collector:

• Issuing SMS Advertisement from the site server to schedule inventory collections from specified clients
• Manually running HP Insight Inventory Collector to collect the inventory of a particular client

Regardless of which method to execute Collect, the .MIF files generated by the Collect does not automatically populate the site server database. The SMS Hardware Inventory service must be configured and active on each managed system to retrieve the .MIF files and populate the SMS database. To ensure that .MIF files are collected, you must enable the Collect NOIDMIF files option in the Hardware Inventory Client Agent Properties.
