Installation overview

The HP ProLiant Server Management Packs for Microsoft® Systems Center Operations Manager 2007 are part of HP Insight Control for Microsoft® System Center, which are a set of integrated extensions to System Center that are licensed and provided as part of HP Insight Control. A free download is available for customers who do not have the HP Insight Control product. HP Insight Control for Microsoft® System Center, which provides comprehensive integrated features for Microsoft® Systems Center product environments such as Operations Manager 2007, Configuration Manager 2007, and Virtual Machine Manager 2008, is integrated with advanced plug-in products for HP Systems Insight Manager products.

The HP Insight Control for Microsoft® System Center CD provides a guided installer (Autorun.exe) to select the HP ProLiant Server Management Packs for Operations Manager 2007. Run the Autorun.exe program on the CD, and then follow the screen guide. The appropriate kit for either the x86 or x64 architecture is selected on the installation environment.

NOTE: In the file names, n_n represents the version number (for example, use 1_2 for version 1.2).

To install the HP ProLiant Server Management Packs for Operations Manager 2007, perform the following procedure:

NOTE: Steps 1 and 2 explain the free download operation. These steps are not needed for HP Insight Control for Microsoft® System Center CD installation.

  1. Go to the HP website, and then download and unzip the HPProLiantServerMPKitsn_n.exe zip file.

  2. Select the appropriate management pack to install.

    HP ProLiant Server Management Packs for Operations Manager 2007 are delivered with Windows® Installation Kits.

    NOTE: The appropriate versions of HP Insight Management Agents or HP Insight Management WBEM Providers must be installed and running on all managed servers. For further information, see the HP Insight Management Agents Configuration Guide or HP Insight Management WEBM Providers Configuration Guide.

    Used to install HP ProLiant Server management capability where Operations Manager 2007 is operating in an x64 environment

    This kit supports both x86 and x64 ProLiant Server managed nodes.

  3. Install the HP ProLiant Server Management Packs for Operations Manager 2007 into the Operations Manager environment.

    The kits support a custom setup option.

  4. Select any or all of the following to be installed:

    • Release Notes and Documents (automatically installed)

    • Console Task Tools

    • Management Packs

    The custom setup option installs HP console task tools to each remote Operations Manager Console.

    NOTE: There are dependencies between management packs and console task tools, therefore both components must be installed to ensure full functionality. The management packs must always be installed on the Operations Manager 2007 server. The console task tools can be installed on the Operations Manager 2007 server and on a remote operator console system. The custom setup option is used to select components to install.

    The installer imports the management packs to the Operations Manager 2007.

  5. Complete the post-installation procedures to discover and display HP servers in Operations Manager console.
